The Political Donor Class

You're on your way to waking up to American politics. You had to lose your house, your car; your health is failing because you can't afford prescription medication; your kids graduated from college and moved back into your one bedroom apartment because they can't find work in the field in which they studied and they can't afford to pay off the school loans. The bridge outside of town collapsed but you can't drive anyway because the roads are so bad they damaged your car; you have to borrow more on your car title loan just so you don't lose your car after paying for repairs the last time.

Starting to wonder what's going on? It's all tied to politics. Didn't you vote? Where's your Reaganomics trickle-down?

Over the last 30 or 40 years, the only crop of public servants for whom we could vote were mostly supported by rich donors, Here's a quick way to discover who exactly is in the rich donor class.

Just go to http://finviz.com/insidertrading.ashx and look at latest Insider Trading list. You can also go to http://www.sec.gov/edgar.shtml and do a search for business boards of directors and owners. You can find out who owns television and radio stations by going to http://www.fccinfo.com/cmdpro.php?sz=L&wd=1366

Everybody else got buried in the Press. They were there, we were just never learned about them because they didn't get enough money to pay for publicity, until now. Bernie Sanders is turning the old model of politics on its head because he has the power of the Internet behind him.

The political machinery behind Scott Walker

As early as 2006, Scott Walker was running for Governor of Wisconsin, but it wasn't until 2009 that Americans for Prosperity (AFP) moved in to back the candidate, roughly a year before the Supreme Court ruled on the Citizens United v. FEC case.

Something odd is happening now, however. While other candidates have since moved on from appealing to donors and switched their messages to appeal to the public at-large, it seems Walker is still making appeals to rich donors. He's still on his messages about Food Stamp Drug Testing, dismantling unions like AFSCME,

The vast majority of national voters aren't white rural Wisconsin conservative farmers or local business owners. He's planning on campaigning in

According to the Washington Post, Walker wants to eliminate the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB),

The strange thing is at Scott Walker backed out of a California GOP event to campaign in early primary states, which makes me wonder if he's still supported by Americans for Prosperity.

The Fiscal Dead: A Failed Policy Becomes a Zombie

Across the U.S., governors and state legislatures latch onto the idea of drug testing welfare recipients as some sort of appeasement to their voters and contributors. Despite the evidence from several states that drug testing welfare recipients is wasteful and unnecessary, Governor Scott Walker insists on using it.

Think Progress reports the results from several states. Huffington Post reports the source of this Zombie Legislation. Care to guess? Of course! It's ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council. State and federal lawmakers are so confident in ALEC they don't even read the bills or pay attention to the consequences anymore.

The Center for Media and Democracy has all the information about ALEC at their site ALEC Exposed.
